In 2019, the GSMA Board set an ambitious target for the mobile sector to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. To achieve this target, our industry needs to reduce emissions to 45% below 2020 levels by 2030, which implies that overall emissions, including Scopes 1, 2 and 3, need to fall by around 7% per year until 2030.
The industry has made tremendous progress through the GSMA’s climate action programme and related initiatives. However, a lot still needs to be done – particularly in reducing Scope 3 supply chain emissions. Transitioning from a linear to a circular device and network economy will be the key to achieve this goal. In this fireside chat we will learn from our speakers about where we stand today on circularity and how their respective organisations are contributing towards this goal.
